London has four UNESCO world heritage sites: Tower of London, Maritime Greenwich, Westminster Palace and Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens. 3. There are over 300 languages spoken in London, more than any other city in the world.
Globalization has been an ongoing phenomenon that most people embrace. Getting on with your neighbor is wonderful, but in hindsight it’s a struggle because everyone is different. World opinions are diverse and while utopia is the aim, finding the right balance and equilibrium is an almost impossible dream.
For British people, having to adapt to fit into line with other cultures seems bizarre whilst the majority of foreigners coming to the United Kingdom are open to change and fitting in to respect locals. Unfortunately, some migrants are unprepared to accept their circumstances and don’t make the efforts to speak.
According to data from the latest Census which combines 2021 data from England, Wales, and Northern Ireland with 2022 data for Scotland, non-speaking people in the UK stood at 10.7 million. That means that 16% of people in the UK, which had a total estimated population of 66.9 million, had been given birth abroad.
How well do immigrants speak English? About half of immigrants ages 5 and older (54%) are proficient English speakers – they either speak English very well (37%) or speak only English at home (17%).
The thing you might want to ask yourself is what about the other 46%. If they can't speak English should they be allowed to reside in the United Kingdom?
Take care!
