Today's blog gives an insight for those wishing to visit this historic sight. Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Incan city in Peru that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is often called the "Lost City of the Incas".

Location:

  • Located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru

  • On a mountain ridge at 2,430 meters (7,970 ft) above sea level

  • In the Machupicchu District within the Urubamba Province

Construction:

  • Built without the use of wheels or iron tools

  • Constructed by encastrating blocks of stone

  • Most of the citadel's structures remain intact today

Features:

  • Giant walls, terraces, and ramps

  • Walkways and thousands of steps

  • The Main Plaza, partly divided by wide terraces

  • Terraces formerly watered by an aqueduct system

  • The Templo do Sol, a semicircular structure with trapezoidal windows

Significance:

  • A royal state and a holy site

  • A very important place to history and culture

  • An example of the Incas' brilliant engineering

Visiting:

  • You can reach Machu Picchu by taking a scenic train ride from Cusco or a guided trek

  • You should reserve and secure your site admission

It is worth visiting both Machu Picchu and Cuso and is highly recommended during a trip to Peru. Each offers unique experiences that together provide a deeper appreciation of Peru's rich history, culture, and natural beauty.

Take care!
